Education & TrainingDr David Oehme MBBS (Hons) PhD FRACS completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University, Melbourne Australia in 2004, graduating with honours. In 2008, he commenced neurosurgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, obtaining his fellowship in 2015.
Throughout his neurosurgical and spine surgery training, Dr Oehme worked at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Children’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre and The Alfred Hospital. Dr Oehme extended his training by completing a PhD at Monash University, researching degenerative spinal conditions and novel biotechnologies to treat disc degeneration. He is considered a world expert in the field. During his neurosurgical training, Dr Oehme has worked closely with some of Australia’s most skilled and respected neurosurgeons, perfecting the art of neurosurgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr Oehme is dedicated to both clinical and basic science research, and was awarded his PhD in 2014. His research interests are in degenerative diseases of the spine and the use of stem cell and other novel biotechnologies to repair degenerate intervertebral discs. He is considered an expert in the field and applies his scientific understanding of spinal degeneration to all of his patients. He has won the prestigious Peter Leech research prize on two occasions, and has been awarded numerous other scholarships and awards based on his contribution to research. Presenting his research all over the world including the USA, Europe, Asia and New Zealand, Dr Oehme has also published widely in peer reviewed journals including the prestigious Journal of Neurosurgery. Dr Oehme continues to partake in research and actively supervises PhD students as well as other basic science researchers. |
