David Oehme Neurosurgeon & Spine Surgeon

Dr David Oehme MBBS (Hons) PhD FRACS, is a highly specialised Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon located in Melbourne, Australia. Based at St Vincent's Hospital, he is extensively trained in the management and treatment of complex spine conditions, brain tumours and cranial neurosurgery.   Dr Oehme is a minimally invasive specialist, with a strong focus on minimally invasive and keyhole techniques. 

Whether surgery is required, or non-operative management is best for your condition, Dr Oehme encourages an active new generation approach to empower your recovery.  A minimally invasive attitude to all conditions facilitates faster recovery and allows patients to get back to healthy living in the shortest period of time possible.  

Committed to helping patients and their families understand their neurosurgical and spine conditions, Dr Oehme's philosophy is that the best outcomes are achieved when patient and surgeon have a strong relationship, built on trust, communication and honesty.  


Dr Oehme is considered an expert in degenerative diseases of the intervertebral disc and spine.  He has a PhD in degenerative disc disease and stem cell therapies to treat degenerative spinal diseases and back pain, and has trained extensively in minimally invasive and open spinal surgical techniques.  Dr Oehme is passionate about maintaining the highest possible surgical standards and uses the most up-to-date technology and surgical techniques.

Dr Oehme is based at St Vincent's Private and St Vincent's Public* Hospitals in Melbourne, where he consults and operates on a weekly basis.  His main private rooms are based at St Vincent's Hospital on Victoria Parade in Fitzroy, only a 5 minute walk from Melbourne's CBD.  This is his main consulting location and all private bookings are made through these central rooms.    Dr Oehme also offers a rapid second opinion service.  If you are unsure whether surgery is the right option to manage your condition getting a second opinion is the right thing to do.
